MVB Look To Close Out Regular Season

The Conestoga Condors Men’s Volleyball team (1-5) had two close matchups against the Fanshawe Falcons (4-2) and the Mohawk Mountaineers (4-2) this week.  

The Condors hosted the Falcons on Wednesday, February 23. The Condors had a good start in the first set. However, the Falcons were able to win the first set after a tight game 26-24. The Falcons caught the momentum and won the second set 25-16. As for the third set the Condors improved their performance and were able to secure their first set 22-25. Despite the effort to equalize, the Falcons won the last set.

Brendan Vandergeest scored 20 points, swinging for 20 kills and collecting 10 digs. Walker Kalin contributed with 16 points, 16 kills, and 3 digs. While Austin McKenna provided 39 assists. 

Three days later, the Condors travelled to Hamilton to face the No.11 ranked Mountaineers. Despite the Condors’ loss, all 4 sets were tightly contested. The final set scores were 25-23, 27-25, 22-25, and 25-21.

Vandergeest led the way with 17 kills. Aaron Morrison added 10 digs, while McKenna contributed to 33 assists from the setter position. While Alex Bowden scored 8 points, 5 kills and 2 digs. 

After two strong games from Kalin the first-year outside hitter earns Condor of the Week recognition.

The Condors will be playing an away game against the No.8 Royals (5-1) on Tuesday, March 1, at 8 pm. The Condors will return home on the weekend to finish our the regular season against the Golden Shield (3-4) and Vipers (0-7).
