Condors Varsity Recap Nov 17 - 23
The Condors kept the momentum rolling this week, earning three victories across four varsity matchups! With strong road performances and dominant home court wins, Conestoga continues to push towards the mid season break.
Women’s Basketball
The Condors earned a statement road win on Friday, defeating St. Clair 65 to 59 in Windsor!
Conestoga controlled large stretches of the game, shooting 50 percent from the floor and winning the rebounding battle 43 to 26.
Fifth year forward Maddy Weber led the way with 22 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 steals.
Jamila Beckford powered the paint with 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists, while Adri Kellerman added a key double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Savana Fries was also strong off the glass, collecting 12 rebounds to go with 8 points .
Men’s Basketball
The men’s squad battled hard on the road Friday, ultimately falling 111 to 85 to St. Clair.
Conestoga posted a strong third quarter with 29 points and continued to compete through the final minutes.
Emanuel Liyaw led the way with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Terell Lloyd added 13 points and 6 rebounds.
Ladera Obang chipped in 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals, and Tristan Braham added 8 points off the bench.
Women’s Volleyball
Back at the Student Recreation Centre on Saturday, the Condors delivered a dominant 3 to 0 sweep over the Sheridan Bruins, taking the sets 25 to 14, 25 to 22, and 25 to 15 .
Conestoga was efficient and aggressive offensively, finishing with 40 kills and a .301 team hitting percentage, while also piling up 13 service aces. Setter Althea Rabano ran the offence with 35 assists and 4 aces, distributing the ball to a balanced attack.
Middle blocker Hannah Cowie led the way with a team high 10 kills and 11 points. Makenna Main and Madison Welmers added 7 kills each, while Jessica Muir provided another spark with 7 kills on 11 swings, hitting .545 .
Men’s Volleyball
The Condors men's volleyball team matched the women's team with their own 3 to 0 sweep over Sheridan on Saturday, winning the sets 25 to 23, 25 to 22, and 25 to 18 .
Conestoga totalled 37 kills, hit .235 as a team, and added 5 service aces, while holding the Bruins to a .082 attack percentage.
Tyrell Belgrove led all scorers with 18 points on 10 kills, 4 aces, and 5 blocks, while Ben Mollink added 8 kills on .538 hitting and Walker Kalin chipped in 10 kills.
Setter tandem Matt Perron and Yannick Krauss combined for 33 assists in the victory .
Condors of the Week
Hannah Cowie – Women’s Volleyball
In her first season with the Condors, and 4th in the OCAA, Hannah has brought veteran experience and steady leadership to the lineup. On Saturday at home, she powered the offence with a team high 11 points, recording 10 kills and 1 block in a decisive 3-0 win over Sheridan. The middle blocker continues to be a reliable presence on both sides of the ball. With her play building week over week, Hannah looks poised to make an even bigger impact as the season progresses!
Maddy Weber – Women’s Basketball
Maddy stepped up in a big way on the road in Windsor, leading the Condors with 22 points in a hard fought 65-59 win over St. Clair. The fifth year forward delivered when it mattered most, scoring 8 clutch points in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. She also added 7 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 steals in a complete two-way performance. Her veteran presence and poise continue to set the standard for the squad!
