The 57th Annual Condors Varsity Athletics Banquet was a night filled with celebration, recognition, and inspiration as Conestoga honoured the exceptional student-athletes, coaches, and teams from the 2024-2025 season. Held on April 2nd, the banquet showcased the dedication, perseverance, and achievements of those who have left their mark on Condors Athletics.

With an atmosphere of excitement and pride, the evening featured the presentation of several prestigious awards, including Athlete of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Scholar of the Year, Coach of the Year, and the coveted Athletes of Distinction, recognizing career-long excellence.

Major Awards

Assistant Coach of the Year – Paul Notice

A dedicated Condor, Paul Notice has been a beloved leader within the men’s basketball team. Known for his unwavering support and mentorship, he has helped shape countless athletes both on and off the court.

Coach of the Year – David Sharratt 

An OCAA Hall of Fame runner himself, David Sharratt brought his elite experience to the Condors cross-country team, leading the men’s team to an OCAA bronze medal and a 6th-place finish at the CCAA National Championship. His ability to inspire and develop student-athletes has elevated the program to new heights.

Scholastic Team of the Year

Recognizing teams that have demonstrated academic excellence alongside athletic success:

  • One Semester: Women’s Softball

  • Two Semesters: Women’s Basketball

These teams set the gold standard for balancing performance on the field with dedication in the classroom.

Student-Athlete Scholar of the Year

Honouring student-athletes who have mastered the art of balancing athletics and academics:

  • One Semester: Maddy Sloan (Women’s Soccer) – A standout goalkeeper and team leader, Sloan was just as dominant in the classroom as she was on the field.

  • Two Semesters: Tyrell Belgrove (Men’s Volleyball) – With 3.19 kills per set (9th in the OCAA), Belgrove was a powerhouse on the court while thriving academically.

Rookies of the Year

Recognizing first-year student-athletes who made an immediate impact:

  • Madison Welmers (Women’s Volleyball) – The OCAA West Rookie of the Year, Welmers averaged 3.1 points per set and led all OCAA rookies in blocks (36), earning a spot on the OCAA All-Rookie Team.

  • Matteo Grant (Men’s Soccer) – A rising star in the OCAA, Grant was named OCAA Rookie of the Year and an OCAA First-Team All-Star, making an immediate impact on the field.

Athletes of the Year

Awarded to the top student-athletes who demonstrated elite skill, leadership, and determination, this year’s recipients did not just dominate their respective sports—they redefined excellence.

  • Bianca Marchetti (Women’s Volleyball) – A force to be reckoned with, Marchetti was simply unstoppable this season. The OCAA Scoring Champion, she led the league with 4.7 points per set and was a nightmare for opponents from the service line, topping the league with .94 aces per set. Her dominance on the court earned her OCAA Second-Team All-Star honours, solidifying her as one of the best volleyball players in the province.

  • Hudson Young (Men’s Rugby) – A true game-changer, Young was the heart and soul of the Condors rugby team. Leading the squad to an OCAA silver medal—the best result in program history—he cemented his legacy by setting multiple Condors records, including most converts in a season (15) and most points in a season (61). His leadership, skill, and relentless drive helped propel the program to new heights, earning him a well-deserved OCAA All-Star selection.

These two athletes didn’t just win games—they inspired their teammates, set new benchmarks for success, and proved that Condors Athletics is home to some of the most talented student-athletes in the country.


Athletes of Distinction

The Athletes of Distinction award is the most prestigious honour of the evening, recognizing student-athletes who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, commitment, and impact throughout their entire careers at Conestoga.

  • Ozay Davis (Men’s Basketball) – A former walk-on turned team captain, Davis played 63 games and scored 509 points during his career, embodying perseverance and dedication.

  • Saab Kohar (Men’s Soccer) – Kohar helped lead the Condors to a perfect 10-0 season in 2023, an OCAA Championship, and a CCAA Silver Medal. In indoor soccer, he won three straight medals (two bronze and a silver). Known for his leadership and infectious energy, Kohar has been a key part of the Condors’ success.

  • Megan Heyes (Women’s Soccer) – A four-year captain, Heyes overcame a major injury in her second year and returned stronger than ever. A leader both on and off the field, she has been a pillar of the Condors community, offering her support across multiple sports and serving as an outstanding student employee.

These three athletes leave behind an unforgettable legacy within Condors Athletics. Their leadership, passion, and unwavering dedication have not only shaped their respective teams but also inspired the next generation of Condors. Their contributions will be remembered for years to come, as they set the standard for what it truly means to be a Condor.
