Overview
The Esports Academy Team lead is responsible for the development, communications, and coordination to lead an Esports Academy Team (title specific). The incumbent should possess strong leadership and communication skills. Above all else, the incumbent should have a deep understanding of their title and the esports industry to steer strategy, best practices, and student athlete success. This position will work both remotely and on-campus at the Waterloo Esports Hub. The hourly wage is $18.82. Work hours will be scheduled according to departmental needs. The start date is August 2026.
*This role is separate from our “Varsity” tiered Condors Esports Teams. Academy Teams are registered and supported with collegiate tournament/league play but are intended to help develop more players and community in esports titles at Conestoga.
Team Lead Positions Needed*: VALORANT, Marvel Rivals, Rocket League, Sim Sports (FC/FIFA MLB the Show, etc.), Rainbow Six: SIEGE, Call of Duty, and more.

Roles and Responsibilities

Coordinates effective tryout methods and athlete role placement for their academy esports title.

Designate player positions, team composition, and other roster-based needs.

Schedules practices, scrims and competition play for their team/title/genre.

Communicates on necessary platforms to coordinate players and related needs.

Acts as content expert for their title and suggests strategies, trends and best practices.

Remains up to date on league operations, title rule changes, and overall team composition.

Liase with esports leagues, collegiate affiliates, and the community when necessary.

Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Be registered in a full-time degree, diploma, or certificate program in the Fall 2026semester, or on a scheduled academic break.

Maintain a full-time course load in the Fall 2026 semester. Part time studies may be allowed for students who are registered with Accessibility Services and require a reduced load

Maintain a satisfactory academic progress – passing 60% of courses and actively progressing through program

Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)

Available to work daytime, evening and/or weekend work hours

Experience using Discord software.

Experience hosting esports leagues, tournaments & events.

Strong leadership and development skills.

Strong communication skills (written and verbal)

Understanding of esports league formats.

Knowledge of esports equipment, events, and popular games.
